It has always been my dream to capture a photo session on the Oregon Coast. So when we planned a family & friends trip down there, I knew immediately I needed to grab my friends and go down to capture their cute families. This Rockaway Beach adventure family session turned out so dreamy full of fun memories we got to capture.

THE OUTFITS

I love the colors that mom chose for her session! I sent her my style guide and she did amazing piecing all these outfits together. The greens, whites, and khaki’s went so well together and helped keep these photos feeling fresh and dreamy.

There was one little snafu with the wardrobe. When getting her sons dressed, she pulled out the khaki shirt and realized she accidentally bought a girls shirt! It would have been fine, but there were ruffles on the sleeves. With some quick thinking, I thought to just cut off the ruffles which turned the shirt into a more of a tank top. I’m not gonna lie, I love that look so much I might suggest it to other parents!

If you were to ask me, I would have never been able to tell in the photos and it’s giving off wild, lost boy vibes.

THE LOCATION

Rockaway Beach, OR was about a 4 hour drive south from where I’m located in Washington. It was a quick walk from where their Airbnb was and was the perfect backdrop for family photos.

What’s magical about the Oregon coast is getting these ginormous rock structures, ocean, and forest (on the other side). There’s not a lot of places (even on the Washington coast) that I find more beautiful than this!

THE ADVENTURE FAMILY SESSION

During these adventure family sessions, I love focusing on capturing real and authentic connections. The boys were so excited to play on the beach! I told mom and dad just to follow their lead, try to stay close to them and if they can, just play and interact with them!

This is where all the magic happens!

After getting our “christmas card photo” with everyone (kinda) looking and smiling at the camera, we let the kids loose to play.

They ran around, splashed in the water, ate some sand. I’m sure in the moment it feels chaotic, but getting to capture these raw, authentic moments in their life creates for the BEST photos.

I had the best time with the Stoddards! I’m so grateful for our friendship. Thank you guys for being willing to get dressed up and let me take your family photos down in Oregon!!
