I have been dreaming of photographing Karla and her family for years. The perfect opportunity came when we took a trip together down to the Oregon Coast. If you saw my last blog post featuring the Stoddards family session, this is from the same trip we all took together. Just wait until you see their stunning photos!
I want to jump straight into the session because the entire flow of this session left such an impression on me.
As Rob and Karla walked closer to the water’s edge (where I was waiting for them), Karla took their son and started spinning with him, each spin coming closer to me. They laughed, giggled, and honestly looked like they were just having the time of their lives.
We moved pretty quickly throughout the session, letting dad have a turn playing with him, letting them swing him into the sky, and lastly doing some photos on a blanket I (thankfully) brought along.
Throughout the entire session, I felt so much love and joy emanating from them.
I later learned that their son was terrified of coming closer to the water and didn’t want to be at the beach. If Karla hadn’t told me, I would have never believed it. He did so amazing throughout the entire time!
With each session, I usually learn a good lesson or two to take with me moving forward. Looking back, there were quite a few things in the planning stage I wish I did differently.
I asked Karla to share her experience with me and she agreed to let me share what she spoke about regarding families who have children with autism. So be on a lookout for my next blog where I will share her experience!
But for now, I just want to bask in the beautiful-ness of this family. Their love, strength, and resilience – especially over this past year – has amazed me. Their love for each other radiates through these images. Thank you Karla and Rob for taking a chance on me and letting me capture these family photos for you. I’m eternally grateful.
